SPECIAL ELECTION – September 6, 2013

The 2013-2015 Board has opened a special election to permanently fill the vacant positions of Deaf Member at Large, Treasurer and Secretary.  The following outlines the timeline and procedures for special elections based on RID’s Policy and Procedures Manual.

For information regarding qualifications for offices please review Bylaws Article 4 (Directors), Section 4 (Qualifications).

  • The permanent positions of Deaf Member at Large, Treasurer and Secretary are officially vacant on September 1, 2013.
  • Nominations began September 1, 2013.  The Nominations period continues for three (3) months, closing on November 30, 2013. During this time, the seats will be held by interim officers. These interim officers may be nominated to become permanent officers by following the same procedure as other members.
  • Nominations requires membership for 4 consecutive years to current date.
  • Nominations requires 25 signatures [Nominations Form], with at least one signature from each region.
  • Submit nominations to nominations@rid.org

Uncontested Election

  • In the event that one nomination, meeting all requirements, is received to fill any of these positions permanently the announcement of the candidate will occur no later than December 20, 2013.  The announcement will be sent to members via email.
  • The candidate is elected into office with one vote by President Whitcher.
  • The newly elected officer is officially sworn in at the next meeting, to serve until the term ends at the conclusion of the 2015 national conference.

Contested Election

  • In the event that more than one nomination, meeting all requirements, is received to fill any of these positions permanently, the announcement of candidates and elections process will occur no later than December 20, 2013.  The announcement will be sent to members via email.
  • Contested election voting will begin no later than January 1, 2014 and be completed on January 31, 2014(11:59pm EST).
  • Results of the election will occur no later than Feb 10, 2014.
  • The newly elected officer is officially sworn in at the next meeting, to serve until the term ends at the conclusion of the 2015 national conference.
