2012 Conference RID Region III Report

Region III Conference

Co-­‐Chairs Report to RID Region III Presidents Council

The RID Region III 2012 Conference will be July 18-­‐21, 2012 at the Wyndham Lisle-­‐ Chicago Executive Hotel and Conference Center in Lisle, Illinois. The hotel is now accepting reservations for the conference. The conference rate of $125 per night is available from July 17-­‐22, 2012. A link to the hotel information is available on www.rid.org.

Registration for the conference is now open. You will find the registration form on www.rid.org. Rates for 2012 are:

As part of the closing ceremonies a banquet luncheon will be provided. Tickets can be purchased with registration for an additional $30. Tickets on site will be available at a higher cost.

Our Hospitality and Accessibility Committee has organized an excursion for the final evening of the conference. On Saturday, July 21, conference attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a Progressive Dining Tour with Chicago Dine Around for $85. Participants will meet in the hotel lobby for networking, seeing the city, and closing out the conference with a bang all while getting aquatinted with Chicago’s restaurant scene, including; hors d’oeuvres & wine served at the first restaurant; the main course and soft drinks at the second restaurant; dessert and coffee at the third restaurant; transportation; city tour. All taxes and restaurant gratuities are included.

We are working with the Hospitality and Accessibility Committee to provide massage therapists on-­‐site during the conference, for stress relief and comfort.

The call for presenters went out on January 9, 2012 and the additional presenter form was distributed on February 1, 2012. We have received numerous inquires about the call for presenters and expect that our Program Committee will have an exciting selection of topics and presenters to choose from. The deadline for presenters to submit their proposals is Monday, February 13, 2012 at Midnight CST. Information about the call is available on RID’s website.

We are working with the Program Committee to provide a one-­‐day pre-­‐conference on Wednesday, July 18th that would focus on educational interpreting.

Looking Ahead
Watch for the Call for Interpreters and the Call for Support Staff, both will be distributed in early spring.
