Motion E: IDP Member at Large Position Results from President Brenda Walker Prudhom
Thursday, March 7, 2013- Alexandria, VA
Many of you have been patiently waiting for the results of the 2011 Conference Motion E (CM2011.04), presented by the Interpreter with Deaf Parents (IDP) Member Section, which supported an IDP Member at Large position being added to the RID Board of Directors.
Since the passage of this motion at conference, the board of directors charged the Bylaws Committee to work collaboratively with the IDP Member Section to review the bylaws and determine the changes necessary to craft the referendum for the members to vote on, no later than December 15, 2012.
On December 14, 2012, the vote was opened and announced on RID’s website, shared through RID e-news and on social media sites including Facebook and Twitter, with additional videos found on YouTube from members of the IDP.
We hope that you had the opportunity to research and consider the many perspectives and vote on this important motion. I can assure you that each vote does count- your involvement is clearly essential in shaping our organization. It was exciting to see the discussions happening in the community surrounding this motion and the valuable insights gained from all those who participated.
After the 60-day required voting time period, I am to report that Motion E (CM2011.04) has passed, creating the IDP Member at Large position on the RID Board of Directors. We recognize the significance of this new board position which will guarantee that the vital founding perspective of the interpreters with deaf parents and the Deaf community will continue to be represented, along with other diverse perspectives held within our membership.
The appointment of this position will be made official at our 2013 RID National Conference this August in Indianapolis, IN; a particularly timely appointment since we will be kicking off our 50th Anniversary celebration, honoring those who established the field. As president, and on behalf of the board, I want to thank all those who participated in getting this motion passed, truly proving that the members are RID.
Keep your eyes open for more information regarding the nomination process for the IDP Member at Large position. We look forward to seeing you at the conference and swearing in the first member into the IDP Member at Large position.
