Do you sometimes feel like you can’t win when you are working as an interpreter? Do you get mixed signals from the deaf people or team interpreters you work with? This workshop will be an exploration of what deaf people have said about working with Coda interpreters based on a research study where American deaf people were interviewed and surveyed about their experiences. The results of the study will be compared with your experience. Small group discussion and reflection activities will be used to examine a Coda’s role and unique position within the interpreting field as a hearing member of the deaf community who is a native user of signed language to better understand the conflicting messages many of us receive.
