In this session, participants will gain an understanding of the impact of domestic violence and sexual assault on their interpreting work. Through lecture, role plays and group discussions, the presenters will provide key concepts and terminology unique to domestic violence and/or sexual assault settings. In addition, the intersection of domestic violence and other areas of the law will be explored. Participants will then have an opportunity to apply what they’ve learned through hands-on interpreting activities, as well as engage in reflective dialogue regarding decision-making, ethical conflicts, and role strain. Finally, via large and small group discussions, participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their work in the domestic violence and/or sexual assault setting.
