This presentation will delve into the historical roots of Codas in the Deaf community, language and identity development, heritage signers and learners, and Coda as interpreters, interpreter trainers, and leaders in the interpreting field. In sum, this presentation will highlight the unique positioning of Deaf- parented people, who can hear, and who are of/by/with the Deaf community. The workshop aligns with the DPI mission specifically by detailing the contributions Codas have made to the Deaf community, their unique skills and perspectives, and framing Codas as heritage signers as essential in the current interpreting climate.
