Participants will be exposed to the various types of courts in the legal setting including criminal and civil courts. The title and role of court personnel will be reviewed while also providing a basic understanding of commonly used terms, their definitions, and implications both in English and ASL. Through guided, hands-on activities, linguistic challenges such as making the implicit, explicit and navigating high and low-context legal discourse will be explored. Participants will be given opportunities to practice and to share what they have learned as we go along.
