Frequently Asked Questions for Expiring Cycles:

Q: I know the standard processing time for CEUs is 60 days – what if 60 days falls after the end of my certification cycle?

A: As long as you’ve earned the required number of CEUs prior to the end of your cycle, when the CEUs are actually processed and added to your transcript won’t impact your certification.

Q: What do I do if I won’t meet the CEU requirement prior to the end of my cycle?

A: If you haven’t already received one, you can request a one-year, once-in-a-lifetime certification cycle extension. The form to request the extension is

Q: If I’ve met the CEU requirements, is there anything else I need to do?

A: Congratulations! There is nothing further that you need to do – a new cycle will automatically be added to your account at the beginning of 2019.

Q: When is the deadline for completing CEUs for my current cycle that ends this year?

A: Any and all CEUs must be completed and the information submitted to the sponsor (as needed) by 11:59 PM on December 31st to count toward your current certification cycle.

Q: I saw the announcement that RID HQ will be closed the last week of December. If I have a last minute question about my CEUs/my specific situation, what should I do?

A: Be sure that you email us prior to close of business (5pm) on December 23rd. We will respond to your inquiries at our earliest convenience.

Q: I’ve looked over my transcript, and there are workshops that I attended from more than 60 days ago that don’t appear. What do I do?

A: You can complete and submit a CEU discrepancy report on the RID website at

Q: When my certification cycle ends, will my membership expire as well?

A: No. Membership cycles run on the fiscal year (7/1 – 6/30), so your membership will expire on 6/30. Certification cycles run on calendar year, so unless you’ve had an extension, your certification cycle will always end 12/31.

Q: How do I know if I’ve met the requirements for maintaining my certification?

A: You can log in to your member portal – on the right side, there is a “Certification Details” box with a progress bar for each certification that you hold. If this shows that you’ve completed the requirements, you’re all set! Just be sure that your membership is up to date, and you’ll be given a new cycle at the beginning of 2019.

Q: What will happen to all of my CEUs once I get a new certification cycle?

A: Activities only appear on your transcript from your current certification cycle, so once a new cycle is added, your previous CEUs will no longer appear on your transcript. They will be available to view in your Education History. If you feel that you’ll need a transcript of all of the activities from your current certification cycle, you can download one prior to December 31st by logging into your member portal and clicking “Download CEU transcript”.
