Caroline Preston Bass
Las Vegas, NV
How long have you been a member of RID?
I joined RID the minute I started interpreting in 1970!
Describe a favorite assignment or accomplishment you’ve achieved as an interpreter.
Establishing a successful interpreting agency, Preston Bass Interpreting Services; managing a fabulous team of interpreters at CSUN (worked there for 31 years); developing a Mentorship Program at CSUN (1971-2001); developing an AAS (2002) and then a BAS degree program for Interpreting at the College of Southern Nevada (2017).
What are your professional goals as an interpreter?
Most recently was to see the BAS degree program approved! Next goal? Gee, maybe I’ll do a little R and R after that long haul. All kidding aside, I am currently the President of NVRID. I have a goal to see Nevada members become stronger, more collaborative and unified as professional interpreters. I also would like to see our state interpreter law improved (NRS656A).
Tell Us Any Fun Facts About Yourself! (Hobbies, favorite vacation spots, etc…)
Lately its been travel. Conferences seem to take us to very nice places all over the world. How fortunate we are to be in a profession that allows us to do that! I’m a shop-a-holic (just ask my friends). Visitors to Las Vegas know that I am a great tour guide, showing off our fun city and going to fabulous restaurants is one of my favorite things (I actually belong to a Gourmet Dining Club!). Come and see!
