The Global Movement of Giving Tuesday
Accepting Giving Tuesday donations from December 3-10, 2024
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to give back, whether by donating money, volunteering, or supporting causes that matter to them. This year, your Giving Tuesday donation will go towards improving RID’s Scholarships and Awards program, and 20% of all Giving Tuesday proceeds will go to HEARD, an organization that will provide direct financial support to incarcerated deaf/disabled people this holiday season.
More About Heard
HEARD is an organization that has tremendous impact on the community, and to incarcerated deaf/disabled individuals in need of support. To show our appreciate for their mission, efforts, and all that they do, RID is honored to contribute a portion of funds collected to this organization.
HEARD is a cross-disability abolitionist organization that unites across identities, communities, movements, and borders to end ableism, racism, capitalism, and all other forms of oppression and violence. HEARD supports disabled people and others who experience ableism by rejecting disability hierarchies and rigid definitions of disability, and by recognizing deaf people as part of disability communities. HEARD works to increase our collective capacity to identify, understand, and challenge oppression through grassroots advocacy, community organizing, peer support, mutual aid, education, and research.
HEARD’s commissary fund provides direct financial support to deaf/disabled people in prison, helping them access essential items such as hygiene products, food, and clothing. This fund sends funds without conditions, trusting that incarcerated people know how to use these resources best to meet their needs; honoring their agency and decision-making in a system that otherwise strips them of autonomy. It also helps reduce the financial strain on family members, who often face additional challenges, including disability, while also supporting their loved ones in prison.
