RID VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP AGREEMENT

This RID VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP AGREEMENT (the “Agreement”) is made, entered into, and effective as of the date indicated below by (“I” or “me”) as a volunteer leader (“Volunteer Leader”) in favor of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc., a California nonprofit public benefit corporation, and its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and agents (collectively, the “Organization” or “RID”).

I desire to volunteer for the Organization and to engage in activities related to being a Volunteer Leader as described below (the “Activities”). In exchange for being allowed to participate in the Activities as a Volunteer Leader, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which I acknowledge, I voluntarily and without duress execute this Agreement and agree to the following terms:

The general duties of Volunteer Leaders shall be:

To perform duties as prescribed by the Organization’s Bylaws, the provided scope of work, and/or position description, as applicable;
To act as an ambassador to RID to the general membership and to the public;
To serve as a liaison to assigned RID committees, councils, task forces, and member sections;
To attend all meetings and submit timely required reports;
To assist in onboarding incoming members; and
To complete an annual self-evaluation reflecting on their performance, growth, and contributions to RID, in alignment with the responsibilities of their role.

The duties specific to a Volunteer Leader position shall be outlined in the Organization’s Bylaws, or the committee’s/council’s/member section’s Scope of Work or Manual (whichever is applicable), and shall be reviewed during onboarding training. I understand that in no event shall the scope of my Activities include illegal activity that may put myself or others at risk of harm.

The Organization agrees to provide each Volunteer Leader with the following resources:

Access to the Volunteer Leader Resource Center[ET1] , the Organization’s Board of Directors, leadership, and management, and all pertinent resources as reasonably requested and needed for proper performance of duties;
Respect for time and effort given in service to RID, and use of their talent effectively; and
Appropriate training and support to fulfill their responsibilities, which may include internal orientations, workshops and materials. As well as access or referral to external training opportunities deemed relevant by RID.

The Volunteer Leader hereby agrees to:

Read and agree to comply with Organization’s Bylaws, and Policies and Procedures Manual;
Learn about RID’s history and gain institutional knowledge, as made available;
Participate in all required training sessions, orientations, or onboarding activities relevant to their role, as determined by RID; and
Read, agree to, and comply with RID’s most current volunteer participation policies, incorporated to this Agreement by reference:

As a Volunteer Leader, I desire and agree to volunteer and donate my services, without expectation of payment, to the Organization. I understand that the scope of my relationship with the Organization is limited to a volunteer position and that no compensation is expected in return for the services I provide. I also understand that the Organization will not provide me with any benefits traditionally associated with employment, and that I am responsible for my own insurance coverage in the event of personal injury or illness as a result of my services to the Organization. I understand and agree that I am not eligible for unemployment compensation benefits when the volunteer assignment ends. I also certify that I have not been promised and have no expectation that I will receive a paid position as a result of volunteer services. I understand and agree that either myself or the Organization may elect to terminate volunteer services at any time for any reason.

I am aware and understand that the Activities may be inherently dangerous and may expose me to a variety of foreseen and unforeseen hazards and risks. I acknowledge that I am voluntarily participating in the Activities and have considered those risks. I hereby expressly and specifically assume such risks, including any and all risk of injury, harm, or loss that I may incur as a result of my participation in the Activities.

I hereby give consent and authority to the Organization to obtain medical treatment on my behalf if I am injured or require medical attention during my participation in the Activities. I understand and agree that I am solely responsible for all costs related to such medical treatment, medical transportation, and/or evacuation. I hereby release, forever discharge, and hold harmless the Organization from any claim whatsoever in connection with such treatment or other medical services.

I, the Volunteer Leader, release and forever discharge, expressly waive, and hold harmless the Organization and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from the Volunteer Services I provide to the Organization. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS RELEASE DISCHARGES THE ORGANIZATION FROM ANY LIABILITY OR CLAIM THAT I MAY HAVE AGAINST THE ORGANIZATION WITH RESPECT TO ANY BODILY INJURY, PERSONAL INJURY, ILLNESS, DEATH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, OR PROPERTY LOSS THAT MAY RESULT FROM VOLUNTEER SERVICES, WHETHER CAUSED BY THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE ORGANIZATION OR OTHERWISE.

I understand that the Organization does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide me with financial or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability benefits or insurance. I expressly waive any such claim for compensation or liability on the part of the Organization beyond what may be offered freely by the Organization in the event of injury or medical expenses incurred by me. In the event of an emergency, I authorize the Organization to secure from a licensed hospital, physician and/or medical personnel, any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care, and I agree that I will be responsible for payment of all such medical services rendered. I also understand that the Organization does not provide workers’ compensation insurance for volunteers. I expressly waive any claim for compensation or liability on the part of the Organization in the event of any injury or medical expense.

I agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Organization from any and all liability, losses, damages, judgments, or expenses, including attorneys’ fees, that it may incur or sustain as a result of my negligence, recklessness, or willful misconduct in connection with my participation in the Activities, arising out of any third-party claim.

Photographic Release. I understand and agree that during the Activities, I may be photographed and/or videotaped by the Organization for internal and/or promotional use. I hereby grant and convey to the Organization all right, title, and interest, including but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds, or other benefits, in any and all such photographs or recordings, and consent to the Organization’s use of my name, image, likeness, and voice in perpetuity, in any medium or format, for any publicity without further compensation or permission.

Nondisclosure and Confidentiality. During the course of the Activities, the Organization may disclose to me confidential and proprietary information (“Confidential Information”). Confidential Information includes any information of any kind, nature, or description concerning any matters affecting or relating to the Activities for the Organization, the clients of the Organization, the business or operations of the Organization, and/or the products, plans, processes, or other data of the Organization. Accordingly, to protect the Organization’s Confidential Information that will be disclosed to me, I agree as follows:

a) I will hold the Confidential Information received from the Organization in strict confidence and will exercise a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others;

b) I will not disclose or divulge either directly or indirectly the Confidential Information to others unless first authorized to do so in writing by the Organization;

c) I will not reproduce the Confidential Information nor use this information commercially or for any purpose other than the performance of my duties for the Organization;

d) I will, upon the request or upon termination of my relationship with the Organization, deliver to the Organization any drawings, notes, documents, equipment, and materials received from the Organization or originating from the Activities for the Organization;

e) The Organization reserves the right to take disciplinary action, up to and including termination of the relationship, for violations of this agreement.

I hereby agree that this Release represents the full understanding between the Organization and me and supersedes all other prior agreements, understandings, representations, and warranties, both written and oral, between us, with respect to the subject matter hereof. If any term or provision of this Release shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, that term or provision shall be deemed modified so as to be valid and enforceable to the full extent permitted. The invalidity of any such term or provision shall not otherwise affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining terms and provisions. This Release is binding on and inures to the benefit of the Organization and me and our respective heirs, executors, administrators, legal representatives, successors, and permitted assigns. Section headings are for convenience of reference only and shall not define, modify, expand, or limit any of the terms of this Release.

I hereby agree that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted, and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without reference to any choice of law rules.

Acknowledgment and Term of Agreement. By signing below, the Volunteer Leader affirms that they have read, understood, and agree to abide by the terms outlined in this agreement. This agreement shall remain in effect for a period of fourteen (14) months from the date of signature, unless otherwise terminated by the Organization or the Volunteer Leader.

The Volunteer Leader further attests that, as of the date of signing, they are a current member in good standing of the RID and a voting member of an Affiliate Chapter (AC) of RID, as required for eligibility.

Compliance with Policies. I acknowledge and agree that I have received and read the Organization’s Volunteer Policies and Procedures, attached hereto as Exhibit A[ET1] . I agree to comply with the Volunteer Policies and Procedures and all other applicable policies and procedures, training, and safety rules of the Organization, and will follow the Organization’s instructions in carrying out the Activities.

No Compensation. As a volunteer, I desire and agree to volunteer and donate my services, without expectation of payment, to the Organization. I understand that the scope of my relationship with the Organization is limited to a volunteer position and that no compensation is expected in return for the services I provide. I understand that the scope of my volunteer Activities shall be limited to the responsibilities and duties outlined in the official description of the committee, council, task force, or group to which I have been appointed. I further understand that under no circumstances shall my Activities include any illegal conduct or actions that may place myself or others at risk or harm.

Assumption of Risk. I am aware and understand that the Activities may be inherently dangerous and may expose me to a variety of foreseen and unforeseen hazards and risks.
