Boyer Children’s Clinic is currently seeking a part-time ASL (American Sign Language) Interpreter to join our team! Boyer provides medical, therapy, special education and family services to infants and young children with developmental delays, and their families.

Our ASL Interpreter will provide interpretation services to help support designated Boyer staff members in providing Boyer services to children and families. The right person will be able to work collaboratively and earn trust quickly, while maintaining a focus on our overall mission.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Provide high-quality professional American Sign language interpreting in-person (at Boyer locations and in family homes) and via telephone or Zoom.
  • Coordinate schedule with designated Boyer staff members to ensure support is provided when needed.
  • Communicate with designated Boyer staff members prior to scheduled visits, as needed.
  • Ensure ethical practices are present in all interpretations.

Schedule

Estimated to be around 20 hours per month, with potential for increased or variable hours, depending on need.

Requirements

Licenses, Qualifications, and/or Certifications

  • Current certification required from one of the following:
    • Certificate of Interpretation (CI) from the Registration of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID)
    • Certificate of Transliteration (CT) from the Registration of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID)
    • Level IV or V certification from the National Association of the Deaf (NAD)
    • Advanced or Master Level certification from the National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
    • Board for Evaluation of Interpreters Certification Program (BEI) through Texas Health & Human Services
  • Associates degree, or equivalent education and/or experience, in Sign Language Interpreting required.
  • Experience in a medical and/or therapy setting is strongly preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification are required.
  • Must possess valid Washington State Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and a reliable means of transportation.

Abilities & Skills

  • Fluency in ASL and spoken English language skills is required.
  • Ability to provide accurate interpretation, with thorough knowledge of and adherence to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Good understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, parents, staff, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and fingerprint check.

Work Environment

The physical demands described represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Travel requirements include ability to transport oneself between office and various locations where service takes place, such as in client homes and community locations.
