• Pass the National Association of the Deaf/Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (NAD/RID), National Interpreter Certification (NIC) examination after
November 30, 2011.
OR
• Pass one of the following examinations administered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID):
– Oral Transliteration Certificate (OTC).
– Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI).
OR
• Pass the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a score of 3.5 or above.

• Pass the Cued Language Transliterator National Certification Examination (CLTNCE) administered by The National Certifying Body for Cued Language Transliterators.

645—361.3(154E) Requirements for temporary license. People who have yet to pass an exam are now required to have a mentor who has passed the exam. The two must meet a minimum of every other month while the temporary license holder will be actively interpreting for at least 30 minutes. At least twice a year, the mentor and mentee must be in the same place, the other meetings can be via technology, but must be live. There must also be 6 bimonthly meetings for the mentor/supervisor to provide suggestions to the temporary license holder regarding skills and what was observed during the interpretation. The Board is made up of seven (7) members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate. The members of the board include:
• Four (4) licensed interpreters, three of whom are to be practicing with at least one of the four employed in an educational setting.
• Three (3) consumers of interpreter services who are deaf.
